Neighboring Vietnam and located in southern China, the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region is 236,000 square kilometers in size and has a population of 46.33 million. It has the highest population of the Zhuang minority group throughout China and pursues a tropical and subtropical monsoon climate; it is hot during summer and warm in winter. The province serves as a vital agricultural cultivation base, providing crops, such as rice, sugar cane, pomelo, lycee, mango, pineapple, etc throughout China. Furthermore, sugar, food and stitch art productions are also very prosperous within the area.
The Guangxi cuisine features spicy and sour flavors. Be sure to sample the reputable Guilin rice noodles, Wuzhou paper wrapped fried chicken and the famous fried tea of various minorities of the region.
Attractions to visit
Nanning
The capital of the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, also known as the "Evergreen Metropolis" because of the area's spring like weather and its huge collections of various kinds of trees in the city.
- Qingxiu Mountain Scenic Spot
Located 5 kilometers northwest from Nanning, visitors can enjoy the spectacular sceneries along the way. The surrounding area of the scenic spot contains waterfalls, green hills, clear waters and unique stones in different shapes. The 60- meter tall Qingshan Pagoda is the most remarkable site within the area, where visitors can enjoy the fabulous view at a high altitude.
- Murals of Huashan Mountain
Primitive cliff mural sites can be found 150 kilometers southwest from Nanning in Ningming County. The ages and the content of these rare murals still remained unknown and continued to stimulate the imaginations of various visitors.
- Yangmei Ancient Town
Approximately 30 kilometers away from downtown Nanning, the classic town is still able to retain its Qing Dynasty market place and remarkable architectures. Tourists can either stroll along the town or enjoy its gorgeous sceneries by boat.
Guilin
It is said to contain the most gorgeous sceneries and landscapes in China, thus earning the reputation of "unmatchable under heaven".
- Reed Flute Caves
Explore the spectacular caves and marvelous rock formations at the site. Enjoy the gorgeous views of beautiful backdrops created by the cool atmosphere and colorful lighting displays inside the caves as you pass by many fanciful shapes (don't forget to look for the Monkey King).
- Elephant Trunk Hill
Serving as the landmark of Guilin, the hill looked like a gigantic elephant that is currently consuming water from the river. Use your imagination and you will be able to see a cute elephant standing right in front of you.
- Fubo Hill
Huanzhu Cave, located at the foot of the hill, has a "sword-testing" rock. Legend said that General Fubo tested his sword with the rock and split it up. Besides, tourists can also explore the 200 Buddhist statues carved during the Tang Dynasty inside the cave.
- Li River Cruise
The famous river is 437 kilometers in length, and the most amazing section is from Guilin to Yangshuo. Visitors can enjoy the magnificent green hills and clear sparkling waters on the fabulous Li River Cruise (Approximately five to six hours long depending on the water current); you will be able to see unique sceneries on your way to Yangshuo, as if you have entered a photo gallery with a large collection.
64 kilometers away from southeast Guilin, Yangshuo is well known for its rural and mountain sceneries; they are as pretty as the actual paint arts. Most tourists are attracted to the county for a week's long vacation just to explore and enjoy the marvelous views.
- Shi Wai Tao Yuan Water Garden
Visitors can explore a typical countryside village at this special attraction; traditional performances of various ethnic minority groups are also available. At the same time, one can also learn special weaving techniques, needlework arts and printing skills on special molds while exploring the fantastic garden.
- Xijie Street/ Foreigner Street
The hundred-year-old street is extremely popular among western tourists due to a large variety of shops, restaurants, cafes and other hang out locations. The combination of oriental and western cultures has attracted many visitors to this State level four-star scenic area.
Longsheng County
About 100 kilometers away from Guilin, the county serves as another great option for a short trip. Minority ethnic groups such as Zhuang, Yao, Miao and Dong reside in the area and the county retains many of their characteristics: Yao women usually dress in pink costumes, have big earrings and extremely long hair. As for the Zhuang ethnicity, women like to dress up in white shirts, black pants and have colorful towels wrapped around their heads.
- Rice Terraces
Due to the area's mountainous landscape, the terraces are built along the mountain slope and look very similar to an elevating stairway. These fields reached up to 885 meters high and are over 800 years old. The terraces are constructed during the Yuan Dynasty by the Zhuang people, covering 66 kilometers of land space.
- Hot Springs
Relax and soak yourself into the marvelous hot springs within the county. Locals believe that the hot springs can help maintain healthiness and prevent diseases.
